The 1st European Conference on Perfusion Education and Training

has taken place on Saturday, September 15th 2001 in Lisbon/Portugal

The conference was organized by the European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (EBCP) and hosted by the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS) at their combined meeting.

This conference aimed bringing together European perfusion schools, training programs and perfusion instructors. A selected faculty active in the field of perfusion education and training covered topics such as

• history of perfusion education and training

• perfusion training in the clinical setting

• continuing medical education and training
• accreditation and recertification
• legal issues and governmental relationship
• future of perfusion education and training

An overview of existing structures in the European member states was given in the form of a poster session.

Clinical perfusionists, perfusion educators and instructors, representatives of perfusion training programs and interested professionals took part in this unique European event.
