History
SWESECT has prepared guidelines for a formal, nationally  accepted educational programme for the training of student perfusionists. The first National Educational Programme was approved in 1987, by the Faculty of Medicine at Göteborg University.  The first course was examined in 1989. The  Swedish school in Göteborg is one of  Scandinavias two EBCP-accrediated schools of perfusion.
The criteria in consideration to clinical and educational experience for authorization of perfusionists were presented by the SCANSECT (Scandinavian Society for Extracorporeal Technology). The first scandinavian perfusionists were authorized in 1991.
The qualifications for admittance to the education are:At least three years of university education in Health and Caring Sciences or Technology and Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry from upper secondary school.
The one- year education consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The students have to document their practical cases in the EBCP logg-book. At the end of the course the students have to prove their skills in an oral, written and practical exam.
After having completed the programme successfully the students have to do one hundred independent cases before applying for a SCANSECT-authorization.
The authorization committee members are: The general secretary of SCANSECT
a perfusionist, a thoracic surgeon, a thoracic anaesthesiologist and a representative from the perfusion education programme.
Perfusion Education programme
