History
1992 Begin of the cardio-thoracic surgery at the St.Elisabeth Hospital. Before 1992, all open heart surgery patients were transfered abroad. The first perfusionist is a bioengineer educated in Germany and in Belgium
1995 A registered nurse in anesthetics was trained on the job and passed an oral and written examination before the board of the Ministery of Health. In the same year he passed the written test of the EBCP
1999 A theatre nurse, trained at the academy of perfusion in Berlin, joined the team.
2001 The open heart surgery department of the St.Elisabeth Hospital and the cardiology department of the Centre Hospitalier fused and were renamed to INCCI ( Institut Nationale de Chirurgie cardiaque et de Cardiologie Interventionelle ). They moved to a new site in the city of Luxembourg
Until now all perfusionists are certified by the EBCP and will apply for recertification.
All three have been authorirized to work as perfusionists, but the profession of perfusionist has as yet not been accredited by the Ministery of Health.
